Guest StreetSleeper
Whats the cc rate for a 1981 280 zx N/A? And what voltage to they run on? Just to fill everyone's curiosity, I'm using them for additional injectors for a turbo project. Placing them inline of the intake and set to go on at 6 PSI of boost. Thanks. onephatz
75-83 n/a =~180-190cc all the part numbers are the same. http://www.courtesyparts.com/s30-s130_inj.html the voltage is usually 12volts but there is an addional inline resistor to limit the amount of current going thru them. nissan uses a 12ohm resistor inline with all their injectors jesse
Guest StreetSleeper
Thanks for the help Is the resistor in the injector plug? or do I need to buy some and put them in line?
onephatz
Is the resistor in the injector plug? or do I need to buy some and put them in line? the z injector is a little coil of wire that has about 2.5 ohms of resistance. in order to limit the amount of current, you need to install an additional resistor in line with each fuel injector or you will burn out the injector driver and sometimes the injector its self. example: voltage/resistance=current -> ----reistor 1------resistor 2------ -> r1+r2=total resistance -> ----injector ------resistor ------- -> injector resisance+addional resistor = total resistance -> -----2.5ohm-------10ohm------- -> 2.5+8=~12.5ohms of resistance since you usually run about 14volts when the car is charging you get the following formula 14volts/12.5ohms = 1.12 amps of current some say that you want to less than two amps so this is ok jesse
Guest 2slo4u
... The stock fuel injector resistors on the 81 turbo are 6 OHMS each.
Guest StreetSleeper
Just a lil curiosity whats the specs on the turbo injectors? (cc?)
z-ya
All 280Z, 280Zx injectors are low impedance (2.4Ohms). If you measured 6, your meter is probably off. You need a high quality Ohm meter to measure low impedance coils (that is what is in an injector). Fuel injectors aren't really designed to be on all the time. They need to be cycled on and off at a relatively high rate to prevent them from overheating. Typically you don't want injectors to be on more than 80% of the time (duty cycle). If you put a current limiting resistor in series with the injector, this will prevent the injector from overheating, and burning out, but the opening time will be much slower. This may not be mportant for oyur application. Are you going to use a pressure switch to turn on the supplemental injectors? The turbo injectors are 26lb/hr, and the NA ones are 19lb/hr Pete
Guest StreetSleeper
Yes, I'll have a pressure switch to turn on at 6psi, I'm only running 8psi, so it won't be on all the time, but durring a race it could be on fo long periods of time. How should I set this up, Z-ya?
Guest 2slo4u
I did not say the injector was 6 ohms, I said the injector RESISTORS were 6 OHMS, on the 81 TURBO model. The different models may or may not have used resistors. The 81 turbos USED the resistors and I think the 82-83 turbo were built into the ecu. What really matters is how he is driving the injector(s). He may be able to directly drive them with some sort of aftermarket setup or he will have to pulse them. If he plans on directly turning them on with 12 and some sort or pressure switch, they will fry even if the stock resistor is used. Next time, read the entire sentence. I didn't use incorrect grammar amigo. 81zxturbo 95slobaru
