worth the work?

Friends of the family gave me a old famil car of theres. Its a 74 260Z with the motor taken out. The husband bought a L28 and a new interior.

only problem... its been sitting for 6 years, and it has a surface rust in small parts on basicaly every pannel. Nothing eaten through but the paint definatly needs to come of. Id say about 3 days of sanding alone, and then some good old fasion krylon lovin till I can afford getting it painted.

The interior is out of the car,

Then Figuring out 260-280 thing.

anyway, is it worth the trouble to invest that much into it?

Ive done alot of work with240s and z32s so im not shooting into the dark, but if I have to spend 3k just to get it near up to par, then its not worth it.

Welcome to the forum man! Id say it's worth a few hours looking into anyway.. find out just how rusted the thing is, check the ussual spots that Z's like to 'go back to nature' and if the car's fairly solid, I'd go for it. The L28 shoud be FI, and if you get the harnes/sensors/ecu it wouldn't be that dificult to make work. Heck.. even if it doesnt have the wiring/ect, you could make 240 SU's work on it easily..

I built my 280 for about $3500 CAN and it was BAD.. I redid most of the rear frame/floor, put in sub-frame, rebuild the whole rear quarters, outer body panels, door bottoms, rad sadle, converted to SU's and 280zx dizzy, molded on a whale tail/front air dam, complete body job and paint, newer seats/carpet, and a year of my life in time. If they're working, there should be some pics of my car in my photo album here. I think you could do it for a lot less than me though, if this 260 is solid, and complete to start with. Good luck man! :)

Heh!

thanks for the response. Its kind of what I was hoping for.

As far as the frame goes its pretty good. nothing noticable. Im going to get a sander and probobly start taking the paint off with aircraft remover this weekend.

Id like to at least get the body sealed, the interior in and the engine at least in the bay so I can tow it all down to indy when I move in december(before it gets to cold here)
