dr_hunt
Ok, guys, I am trying to tie the front strut towers to the 10 point cage, to make a 12 point cage. Looking for pictures on how others have done this. Problem being is that the firewall cowl area has two separate compartments. I'm not exactly sure how to post a pic of what I already have completed. Any pics would be appreciated. David[/img]
rc's240z
Take a look at my link below, there are lots of photos of my cage and how we tied it into the roll cage. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6784&sort=2&cat=500&page=
preith
Ron, I never noticed before, but do the bars that go towards the winsheild wiper motor, dead ended at the firewall? I think what dr_hunt was asking, and what I ended up doing, was running the tubes through both walls of the wiper box. The cross bar on mine is also higher therefore providing a spot for the bars to tie into the cage. I kept them as far down as possible in the box, and was still able to use the stock wiper assembly. Also, I hole sawed holes through the 1/8" plate steel and welded them on both sides of the box. From the outside, it looks itendical to Ron's on the firewall side. My pics are on zdriver.com, but the page has been under renovation, and I don't have any of the interior under the dash anyways. I beleive in "how to hotrod race your datsun" there's some decent pics of this as well.
rc's240z
Yes, you are correct. I was looking to juwt trianglate the strut towers. the other 2 tubes come up from my roll cage and are tied into the strut towers, the two middle bars are tied into the firewall were there are structual supports. dr_hunt
Cool guys, that's great. If I'm low enough I can avoid the windshield box but then I'm really too low to tie to a cross bar under the dash and then it really doesn't add that much support to the front frame like I think it should have for 650HP engine. Your pics are a big help. Question how did you weld all the way around the lower door bar where it intersects with the passenger side halo/A pillar bar? It looks really close to the body. rc's240z
There were certain areas of the car we had to cut access holes to weld all the way around the tubes. A few holes in the roof and the floors. It is tricky slow work, but if done correctly.... Ron
