Guest 1fastz
Well you have a dual stage kit.. im stuck NOT spraying first gear at all since i only have a single stage mr big shot set at the 250 horse setting .. That and the much higher torque my 383 givs vs your high rpm 355 means broken parts if i try. I only 60 foot in the 1.68 range. wish I could cut 1.50s and spray first thats why the r-230 conversion IM fairly sure if I could spray first it would be no problem for me to drop into the 9.20s as im loseing at least 1.5 tenth on the 60 foot and probly another 2.5-3 tenths as I go through first on the motor only then hit the hose when i pull second. IM sure with the same motor and the large shot 8.60s is doable with the 400 shot. I tried makeing some 350 horse seting passes but after breaking 7 half shafts when I hit the bottle in second I gave up. It got old pushing the car back of the stageing lane from half way to the eight with a broken half shaft heh. anyway car can be seen here www.geocites.com/twinturbosaleen
jbeech
Pushing the car with broken half-shafts? Boy I bet that does get old! Mark, your car has the R230 installed and Modern Motor Sports has the adapter to fit the Q45 half-shafts to the Z-car, right? What are you doing at the axle end? Are you using a companion flange adapter as Tom does, or?? By the way, Mark, I notice you're in the Charlotte area, I'm currently in Jacksonville, NC and Tom is near Raleigh. What other NC guys do we have here on this board - do you know? Boy I'm excited at the possibilities for Z-car difs all you guys are showing me! I gather the CVs are holding up then, right? By the way, how well does the R200 hold up? This site is the greatest!
Guest Anonymous
When the previous owner had it, my '71 240 went 9.52@152. He got some high 1.4's short times out of it. He sprayed 300 hp on a 350 with a bunch of cam, so it wasn't too strong on the bottom end. He said he'd roll out about to the tree and spray it. The car runs high 11's on the motor now with a pump gas 350 in it.
Guest Anonymous
jbeach, The half shaft in the earlier post has 2 stock Q45 inner CV's on a shortened shaft. One end bolts to the stock R-230. Ross has my adaptor right now (right Ross?) making a copy. He will sell these as well as a stop to keep the half shaft from walking toward the center of the car and pulling the outer CV apart. I've had this set up on the car in one form or another for about 6 years. It works great now and I can't imagine it breaking with what I have put it thru. That said, Ross had some ideas to make it even better. tdab who post frequently lives in Gastonia. MArk
jbeech
Gastonia, eh? Also the western part of the state. By the way, I'm thinking of moving my business to south Florida. Lynn (my better half and pal for almost 25 years) and I are flying to Ft. Lauderdale the second week of March to do a little house hunting - not in Ft. Lauderdale per se, but west of it via Alligator Alley on the Gulf coast side in the Ft. Meyers/Cape Coral area. Are their any HybridZ members in that part of the country? I'm going to start a post with this question so as not to clutter up this one with more chit chat.
jbeech
What model auto was the donor for the R230 dif? I understand Q45 had the R230, but my searches lead me to understand some had traction control, others not - what confuses me is are some listings of non-traction control R230 that say they "do" have posi trac . . . what's the difference? Also, if you don't mind, what did you have to pay for yours? Did this include the half-shafts?
Guest Anonymous
All Q 45 had the viscous limited slip. The traction control used the abs to apply brakes to the spinning wheel. Mine was from a 94 model. Don't remember what I paid, years ago. Probably 450 for the diff and 150 for the half shafts sounds about right. I think the price of the diff has come down alot since then. JustAFantaZ
Dean are you having fun with my old car? Hey how is the Stang running? Mike Hey Mike! That car was a LOT faster before you let Dean get his hands on it. j/k Dean. Yo Dean! Remember the time when I kicked your @s$ with my naturally-aspirated, independent rear suspension, VR225-60 tires having, little Chevy 355Z going down I-35? hahaha That was a BLAST. What ever happened to that orange rust bucket? Peace!
Guest sultan
pardon my asking, but why does everyone in the Z communities say the Q45 diff is an R230? the Q45 diff is an R200V, not R230. The case may be a different size than other R200's but it is not an R230.
