SU's are excrutiatingly simple to tune dude, no worries. I used to have a bunch of bookmarks to SU tuning pages but I guess I got rid of them.

The SU's adjust the fuel mixture by turning the adjustment knobs on the bottom of the carbs. If you follow the fuel hoses from the float bowls to the bottom of the carbs, it goes into the nozzles, between the nozzles and the main body of the carbs, are the adjustment nuts. Adjusting them raises or lowers the height of the nozzles, and changes your fuel mixture. However... you really can't... or at least shouldn't, just go about it like that. You'll also need to check and adjust their relative air flows, and you do need a special tool for that ($15 tool). The problem is... other things might be amiss. Maybe your floats aren't adjusted correctly. Or the needles aren't seated evenly into the pistons.

I suggest you just do a google search for "Tuning SU's" or something similiar... there are pages all over the 'net dedicated to this... though many of them have nothing to do with Z cars, tuning SU's is pretty universal.

If you can wait a bit and have a few extra bucks, the BEST recommendation I can think of would be to go to Ztherapy.com, contact them and order their video title "Just SU's". This is a GREAT video and any 1st gen SU'd Z owner should own this. It gives a great walk thru on tuning, tearing down and rebuilding these carbs and after watching it a couple times you'll have no problem getting and keeping your Z running perfectly. You can also order the air flow measuring tool from them, I believe.
