john kosmatka
Is it ok to remove the pcv valve on the block of a l28et and plug it if I leave the one on the valve cover opene? Or should I leave the hole in the block open?
Guest Magic
I remember when I did a search on this. It all seemed to be very complicated. I think there are pro's and cons with either way. In short for me, Id keep a bit of vacume there. Well thats what I decided to do anyaway. Anyone else want to jump in here?
zxtman
Do a search and you'll find there's alot of information on this subject. You need to make a decision wether you want to evacuate the engine or let it breathe: you can't do both.
Guest bastaad525
DONT PLUG IT! I found this out the hard way with leaky main seals and a broken oil pan gasket. I did this exact same thing... plugged the block, and left the valve cover breather open. First I noticed that my oil dipstick was never seated when I opened the hood... it kept getting blown out of the tube. Then within about two weeks both mains and the gasket had started to leak. I couldn't understand this... as I figured... air circulates pretty freely between the block and the head, or I thought it did, I'm still not 100% if it does or what, but only allowing air to escape from the valve cover was definatley not enough. Someone mentioned to me that the there are baffles in the valve cover where the air passes thru before exiting the vent, and with a turbocharged engine, pressure was just building up too fast in the block and couldn't get thru those baffles fast enough. Dunno if you're running a turbo or if this same thing would happen on a N/A motor, but I wouldn't do it... it's not worth finding out.
