Guest Stert
hi guys. here is my situation i have a first gen camaro. i was going to do a 6.0 swap into that but then i saw some pictures of some really nice datsun z cars.....i really like the widebody ones. so now i am thinking of doing the same swap into a z car and selling my camaro but i have some questions first: how hard is the LS1 swap (the 6.0 is the same as the LS1, just not aluminium, its iron)? are there companies that make kits to do the complete swap? with motor mounts? i have never done any type of swap so i dont want to get into this if it is too involved. is it hard to find a good car to do the swap in? i know a lot of these are pretty rusted out. i have never done any type of rust restoration, so i dont want a rusty car. will it be too hard to find a car? how much should i expect to pay for a car like the one i described? (trying to get an idea of how much this will all cost). i guess thats all the questions i have. i have not decided on what trans to use....thats why i didnt mention anything about it.....what have guys been using in their LS1 datsuns? thanks for any help, i am also trying to look through the forums and peice together answers to these questions, but i would apreciate any help you guys could offer me. JKDGabe
how hard is the LS1 swap How talented are you? One guy here did it in a week but that's not normal... are there companies that make kits to do the complete swap? with motor mounts? Yes. Johns' cars does make a kit and JTR is working on it. is it hard to find a good car to do the swap in? Depends where you are and how far you're willing to go. With patience it's not hard usually. There's a search function at the top of the page, it'll be your best friend for info. Good luck and welcome!
Guest Stert
thanks for the fast reply. i dont have very much experience in this kind of thing. i am only 18, i want to do something with auto as a career so this is partly a learning experience for me too. i have taken auto 1 and advanced auto in highschool. i dont have any auto classes this year. never really put a motor in but have taken plenty out.....our auto class was pretty much just a chop shop is there a lot of fabrication that goes along with this? my dad is pretty knowledgable about cars and good with this type of stuff but it has been a while for him since he has done much with cars, so he can help me figure out stuff and i always have the message boards, but i dont want to get in over my head fabricating or getting into unknown territory. so its not too bad to find a pretty clean car? im not to worried about dents and dings or whatever (since im going to do some body work and put the widebody kit on), i just dont want any rust. about how much on average will these cars go for? i would be willing to drive pretty far, i am in michigan thanks, and ill keep searching the forums
dsommer
OK if you are even considering doing a swap go to http://jagsthatrun.com/ and buy the basic book for the v-8 swap. Sheez this has been posted soooo many times already. Next SEARCH our little site for keywords. LS1 etc. Finding a car? You didn't even extend us the courtesy of telling us where you are ie register yourself correctly. Admin note could we make the "location" field a MANDATORY entry for folks like this???? I'm in ArKanSas and can find a car (240-280) here and there but where are you, tim-buck-too? We need a bit more info and a budget, use the search function and you'll gain a load of knowledge. Sorry guys just a rant and my .02 worth ds

As for a rust free car, good luck. You're probably going to want to put new floorboards in any old Z you get.
