Guest z31_drifter
Instead of doing things to my ZXT. I am going to work on the 280Z and make it into a streetable drag racing machine. I would like to get into the 11's if that's possible. What engine would be best? A V-8 or keep the L28 engine and have Rebello Racing help me out and turbocharge it. I am thinking of keeping the L28 since it's lighter and having Rebello Racing build me a 3.1 L stroker and turbocharge it. What parts from a 280ZX would I need though? I know I would need the exhaust manifold and AFM, anything else though. I did try searching. I don't wanna get a 280ZX engine but if I have to, I will. Tim240z
Your weight statement is likely incorrect, esp. if using a turbo.... Tim
Guest z31_drifter
So you're saying if I was to turbocharge it, it would be heavier then a V-8? Well what engine would be better for drag racing?
Guest 77vegasz
The small block Chevy is by far your best choice. They are abundant in supply, and aftermarket parts are at least 75% geared towards these motors. If your state allows, get rid of the bumpers and supports, put on aftermarket fiberglass, remove all unnecessary items, ie. AC, heater core and controls, radio, stock seats, etc. Get good aluminum rims with street leagal DOT drag slicks, do the CV half shaft conversion, build your small block to the 450 hp at the flywheel range, and 11s is entirely possible. Guest z31_drifter
Yeh I am gonna strip the inside of the car tommorow. If it isn't raining!! The car is only gonna have one seat. I'll look into a chevy engine though. Would it be better to get a crate engine or get a shortblock with pistons and everything else in it and get my own heads and other things? Guest Magnum Rockwilder
You can build a SBC with aluminum heads and everything else that unbolts, and it'll be plenty light.
Guest z31_drifter
Well before I decide on doing anything. What do you guys think would be better? Fixing up my 280Z. Frame rails are rusted. Doing the V-8 swap and making it into a streetable drag Z or modifying my new ZXT into a streetable drag Z. If I was going to make the new ZXT into a streetable drag maching. What engine would be best? I would like 500 + H.P. from it if I did anything. Would the RB26DETT engine be good? I would like your input because I am stuck in a hole. Guest z31_drifter
Ok I am out of the hole. I am not going to do anything with the 280Z. I am going to modify the new ZXT. Do a swap. What engine would be best for drag racing though? I want alot of horsepower. Who doesn't. Now I just need to make a plan and a price list.
