I am planning to go to one of those schools to learn automotive technology. Has anyone here gone to any of those 2 schools. I would like to know your likes and dislikes about the school, thanks.

im a UTI Auto Tech grad, and its okay school.

you can learn alot but its up to you to learn it, whatever you put in you will get info out of it.

what state you plan on going to?

Now I did not go to either school but, I have worked with 3 different guys who have gone to UTI in Chicago. So far I am not impressed with what they learned. They dont know anymore than I do I and only went to a local Tech. for my Associates Degree in Automotive Technolgy. Now Im not saying its a bad school but for how much it costs to go there I just havent seen the benefits so far?

*One guy gets fired all the time for F-ing this up all the time(hes just a dumbass if you ask me!) He's worked at atleast 20 different shops in teh last 3 years. You would think he'd learn!

*The second guy I know used to work with me but went back to Jauguar school down in FL. He has a cool guy but didnt know jack about basic auto technology. He claimed to be a electronic wiz but he could diagnose an electrical problem if someone gave him the answer to the problem!

*The third guy, is a guy I work with now. He seems to know the basics. He's one of those guys who can get a car running anyway possible but its probably no the safest to drive after hes done. He's a "get'r dun" type of guy. He's got potential.

Like any guy straight out of tech(my self included, 2 years ago), your going to make dumb mistakes and not be able to figure out problems on your own. That's why they keep all the old guys around! LOL Like Mike said "you can learn alot but its up to you to learn it, whatever you put in you will get info out of it."

If your paying for school then I say just go to your local Tech but if you got a scholarship or someone else is footing the bill then I say go to UTI or WY Tech.

yep ill be paying a BIG bill.. over 50K in student loans for both auto tech and paint and body at UTI...

sucks but it was my choice.

now i learned alot from UTI but remember most kids at these schools dont care about learning, its just a school to go to so there parents dont yell at them.

i learned more by just messing around with my Z's and other friends cars then i did at UTI.. but i knew the basics, if you dont its a good school to go to..

I'll probably go to the Penn one or the Florida one. I don't know much about automotive technology, I would know more if my parents let me work on my own stuff. I tell them to let me learn on my own then go to school to learn more, I told them there are manuals and books I can read to gather information to learn how to do stuff but they wouldn't let me. Cool thing about Wyotech is that they offer these 2 other cool courses. Chassis fabrication and Hi-Performance Engines...and Street Rodding. I would most likely take the Automotive technology along with Chassis Fabrication and Hi-Performance Engines. Took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, went to a local tech school for Computer Networking but the professor didn't know jack crap so I quit that, took awhile and thought what I wanted to do, then I decided I wanted to be a mechanic because I like cars and working on them. Most likely, I will end up going to Wyotech. I don't know. My mom and I are going to go and check them out after the holidays.

I am a recent University grad and the only advice I can offer you is to really and honestly think about what you are getting yourself into. In way am I trying to persuiade you to persue something else but I know myself I was way to immature to understand the importance of what I was getting myself into. I wish I would taked something other than computer science. Job market is terrible right now. Just remember you are going to devote 3-5 yrs on average to this and a whole lot of money. Be sure you make a wise decision because its damn hard to start over. I don't want to be downer but I wish someone would have stressed the importance a bit more to me. You don't want to switch programs half way through, you can never get those years back.

On a brighter side, automotive school would be great fun!!

Went to see my phsychiatric doctor today. My dad went with me and asked about me going to Wyotech. The doctor said it probably wouldn't be a good idea right now because of the way I am. He said I would probably end up in jail or the ER. Damn having schizophrenia sucks. So I don't know what I should do right now.

z31 drifter-work on your personal problems first and keeps cars as a hobby for awhile.i have worked on cars for a living for over 20 years.it sucks.the pay sucks.3 hernia operations in 20 years.the dealerships suck-take time to learn about the flat rate pay system.they dont pay you to do good work-they penalize you.i dont think those schools are worth the money.you can take the ase tests on your own to see where you are at in knowledge.i had a ase master auto cert before i worked at a dealer.i worked on my own before i moved to a big city to work at a dealer.before i worked on cars i got a 2 year college degree in electronics-shoud have stayed in electronics.
