mtcookson
That John Mellencamp had put together back in 1979. Supposedly it had a wide body kit, a 454 with 3 4 barrel carbs, and the guy that bought it off of him said the thing had to at least be putting 700 hp to the wheels. He said that you could be going 100 mph, punch it, and burn the tires. At the time he was known as John Cougar but signed it as John Mellencamp so no one knew who that was and the guy didn't get as much money out it as he probably could have. Anyone ever heard of this? A friend of mine in Indiana talked to a guy who said he owned it. Figured at least someone on here would know something about it.
Guest rick458
There is a 9 sec Big Block Z that runs Baytown from time to time
Guest 78sbc280z
http://www.ratsun.com has a 502 280 that runs a 9.3 in the 1/
Guest JAMIE T
I don't think he was asking about OTHER big block Z's. I think he is more interested in the car he was actually talking about. Sorry, I have never heard of that car though it is intriguing.

SpeedRacer
Sorry, haven't heard of either one of them. BTW, I don't think I have ever seen and V8 with "3 4 barrel carbs" - maybe 3 2 BBL carbs? I will add a big block owned by Ron Jones which I think had a best time of 8.46 in the 1/4 mile http://www.zparts.com/showcase/rj-dragz/pages/rj-preview.html

jap tin
Just for the record, Ron's 540 Big Block Chevy didn't run 8.46 in the quarter. That was my little old small block chevy Z car.
Guest 406_ZDriftr
yah the 3 2-barrels is called the triple duece, tri power, 6 pack, the 2 4-barrels is a dual quad set up. 3 4-barrels is pretty much unheard of though
SpeedRacer
Ooooops, sorry - my bad. Looks like the fastest Ron Jones turned in the 1/4 mile was 8.56 @ 160.08 MPH http://grannypotts.freeservers.com/Times.html
