Hey everyone, hows it going. Im new to this board, and dont really know anything on the technical side about Chevy engines in Z's, except that they are fast. My question is this: What is ussually the drivetrain setup on these cars. I have a 406 and I plan on making it as light as possible, with any aluminum parts i can use. Dont want to make the front end extremly heavy. I want to go with a dry sump setup if thats possible, and fuel injection. But as far as transmissions and differentials, what do most of these cars use? I was thinking of putting in a keisler 5 or 6 Speed manual transmission. As for the differential, im clueless. Can the Zs differential hold up?

Buy the JTR Datsun Conversion Manual. It has all the information you need to do the conversion, and has drawings of brackets, mounts etc. I made my own from the drawings, but I have full access to a friends machine shop. This is the "Bible" for a small block Chevy conversion.

Good Luck and welcome to the board.

You should go with JTR kit, I didn't, I wish did, and I'm tell you.. you want that kit. (man I love saying that. I shoud put that in my signature)

It can be done without it, as I did. But the whole time I was thinking, "I should have spent a little more on the JTR kit"

Do NOT go with Motorsport kits found at Zcarparts.com. I'm currently creating a webpage describing all the problems that I had with them. The largest of which was the fact that THEY think they know MY specs better than I do, suchas how many inches I need for a driveshaft! 36&1/2 Inches from the end of the tranny to the front of the Pumpkin!! Not 37&3/4 Inches. an 1nch and 1/4 Smaller would work, BUT NOT BIGGER. Sorry going off on my own rant.

And welcome to HybridZ, but for THE LOVE OF PETE use the search function before posting. Ugly things can happen if you dont... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=98378

This is a tough question to answer not knowing what all is included in John's package, parts and documentation. I would get the manual (it's only $35.00 I think) and then if it's not useful sell it to someone else and if you decide not to go the LS1 route then it will be even more useful.

There is a lot of generic information in the manual that pretty much anyone swapping a new motor into the Z will find useful.

Yup, that would be Pete Paraska's awesome Hybrid Z. I think you could call Pete a founding father around here.

As was said before, definitely get the JTR manual and study it. It has a lot of great information in it. I think you will find that people here will help with anything that isn't covered in the manual.
