Guest ScarabZEE
I've done the search on power steering for a early Z car here on the forums and didn't really find anything conclusive and was hoping that someone has come up with a good conversion to power steering. Does the WRX steering rack work and if so how is it done on a 280Z ?
Guest 240zJake
I don't know if this is the quintessential WRX/STI ps rack thread but here is what I found http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=94272&highlight=WRX%2Fsti
Guest 240zJake
And here are some pics of a subaru rack installed http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6479&size=big&sort=1&cat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6480&size=big&sort=1&cat=
2126
Jake, nice reply to the question at hand! I had no idea the Subaru PS pack looked so much like the original Datsun rack, with the exception the the PS part. Damn, that appears to be a pretty simple conversion! ezzzzzzz
I've just purchased a 2002 WRX rack for my 71 240Z conversion. The swap looks very doable without too many modifications. The original 2.4L is still under the hood. As such, could anyone tell me what PS pump (and remote reservoir, if applicable) and bracketry that is a direct bolt-on to the 2.4L straight six? How about required pulley(s)?The hoses are not an issue as these can be fabricated to adapt pump to rack. I know others are comtemplating this too and find info sporatically throughout the forum. It seems that many subjects get sidetracked with superlative commentary or hijacked and spin off on another subject entirely....just an observation, mind you. Guest ScarabZEE
Thanks guys, I knew someone here would know something about it. Jake did you do it yourself? Is the rack the exact same lengh and do you need to change the tie rod ends or anything?
Guest 240zJake
I have not done the swap. But reading the thread I think that the ends do need to be changed so they will fit in the datsun piece.
randy 77zt
280zx or 810 had a ps pump.it bolted on on the fuel pump hole on the head.
Guest bswanstrom
Anyone have a difinitive answer on the best tie-rod ends to use? I see people talk about the ZX ends, shortening the 240's, all kinds of solutions - Seems as there are almost too many ways to do it.... Guest ScarabZEE
Well I just got my WRX PS rack out of a 2003 and all looks well but haven't figured out what PS pump to use with the WRX PS rack. Guys I'm gonna do this and I'll take pictures along the way, once the weather changes. If anyone comes up with a good Idea let me know.
