Guest boosted
Ive got an 82 L28et jsut dropped it in the 82 NA. But the harness ive got is out of an 81 L28et. Ive been looking for the 82 harness because of the c.a.s as well as the dropping resistors for the injectors differing between the two harnesses. WEll I just got off the phone with this guy who said I would have no prob with the 81 harness? He mentioned he dropped an 82 or 83 L28et engine in an 81zxt wired it and ran it NO Problem. so if the 81 has the c.a.s mouted at the crank then it dosnt have wiring to c.a.s mounted in the dizzy. how could his swap have worked? Would he have had to mount the 81 dizzy and c.a.s and run it with the 81 ecu. Ive got an 82 L28et and 82 or 83 ecu. i'd be better off with the 82 harness? Or how much involved to run the 81 harness.? thank you in advance im really not to knowledgable when it comes to wiring and im REALLY trying to learn. everything else is about done It just needs to be wired and filled with fluids , second check a few things , turn the Key. fl327
One thing about the 81 harness that I hate is that it still uses an external resistor box. 81 ecu is a good one, no rev limiter. To convert it, you need distributor from 82-3, and you will need to change the distributor drive shaft, since the distributor base mating part to the oil drive spindle is different. Some minor rewiring is needed to run the internal CAS distributor, but its pretty basic. You also need to get rid of the external resistor box, which can be done pretty easily with the FSM diagrams, the 82-3 models have the resistors inside the ecu. I once ran 81` harness with 83 ecu, and in the long run I fried the harness pretty good. Come to think of it, I would use the 82-3 harness, I dont like cutting that factory harness, and I would source the later harness just for peace of mind. Guest boosted
Yup... Ive studied the wiring diagrams all 81 82 83 turbo and think i could figure it out BUT..IM trying to avoid having to hack the harness and . if i can find an 82-3. ,based on what i can see in the diagrams make a bit easier . Im Sure someone will be looking for an 81 harness i'd like to pass it on to someone who would need it as is. . also Keeping in mind that if all goes well illl be running the stock electronics for only a year. Come next winter a complete swap of the electronics. At that time i will decide weather or not to M-squirt or possibly another route But For the moment I Will be running the stock electronics (pending I get it running) until next year. ive got the 82-3 dizzy (the engine is 82) complete and ready to go.ALL that is left now is wiring and to complete the rest of the plumbing to IC and back to the TB. thank you for the advice leaves me back were i started i guess. I need an 82-3 zxt efi harness
fl327
The wiring changes arent so bad. Just be careful.
Guest bastaad525
I run an '81 motor, with '81 front mounted CAS, on an '82 harness/ECU/AFM. I always forget what's compatible with what... I thought you need the same year ECU, AFM and harness? I know either the front mount or internal dizzy CAS will work with any year harness/ECU combo. You may be able to use the '82 harness with the '81 ECU? I'm almost positive that the AFM and ECU have to be from the same year.
Guest boosted
The engine is an 82. the dizzy is also an 82. ive got a few ecu. think 81 82 and 83. Im not sure what year I pulled the AFM from. The harness I have is from an 81. Thinking that life would be easier using an 82 harness with the 82 dizzy and ecu .going to have to check on the year AFM ive got if that is the case of the ECU and AFM having to be same year? Iowa280zx
do you still have the 81 zxt efi harness for sale?
