Guest greimann
We all know that New York was named from the English city of York, and the region of New England and the State of New Mexico are obvious relations to their country counterparts, but what is New Zealand named after? Guest Anonymous
Heres a short history and I think you can gather why it was named what it was. It was originally the polynesians who went there first, but european sailors found it and named it later after one of the four chambers mentioned in this paragraph: "In 1633 Tasman signed up with the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie or VOC). The East India Company was managed by aboard of seventeen - "de Heeren XVII" - the Lords Seventeen - and were appointed by Chambers in the principal trading towns. Eight Chambers were situated in Amsterdam, and four Chambers were in Zealand, a maritime province of the Netherlands." So basically it was named after the provence in Zealand a maritime province of the netherlands... The internet, ain't it grand.. Guest Anonymous
Zealand is the land around the Zieder Zee (fresh water seperated by dikes from the english channel)We would call it swampland or Louisiana or the Everglades.
ZROSSA
Well it all makes sence now. Pissing down with rain and dikes in the house next door. Although there water holding abilities seam to only work on a monthly cycle. Douglas
