Well,

Some of you may or may not remember that fact that my car went into paint some time ago just after the 02 convention that was here in san antonio. I dropped the car off at a small time shop (only one guy working and running it) and was told that it would be back to me in 3-6 months. well...it turned into an incredible ordeal and ended finally with my having to be a jerk to someone that I would consider a friend....I'm in the process of re-assembly and look forward to being an active member of hybridz once again! YES YES YES!!!!! oh...and yall dont get full pictures yet....just little samples....muhahaha!

ha! sorry about the teasers, Its just a shell right now so it doesnt look like much. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have it assembled enough so that I can drive it around and take some good shots of her. Rest assured I will be posting pics even if its just for me!

Do you plan to wet sand and buff it before reassembly? I see some orange peel in the pics.

well,

my painter already spent some time sanding and buffing, but since i pissed him off he told me that "thats as good as I'm going to get it, I just want it out of my shop." (ooopS) I've spent some time looking at it and debating on whether or not I'm going to spend some of my own time buffing it but decided that since this will be a daily driver, the last thing I need to do is put alot of time into wetsanding it, only to have it get all scratched and nicked up anyway. the pictures don't really do the paint job justice as the orange peel really isn't that bad, only the owner, or other painter gearheads will notice.

I'm not crazy ecstatic about the paint job, but for what I've paid, I'm satisfied with it. The only thing I'm really happy about is getting the car back....Cant wait to hear the woooshhhhh-psssssss....

I'm not knocking it by any means. ;) The reflections are great, and the color is cool, too.

I spray jobs like that all the time and haven't had any complaints yet, but they usually take me 1-3 days to complete... not 2.5 years. I just figured that if you waited 2.5 years it better be slick as glass. I really doubt he wet sanded it. He probably just hit it with the buffer to get rid of a few dust specks.

Without knowing just how thick he laid the clear on, it's risky to break out the sandpaper... but you could always ask him if it's thick enough to wet sand.

You could block it with 1000 grit, then buff it with some quality compound specifically designed to get rid of 1000 grit scratches.

You can also follow the 1000 grit with 1500, then 2000, then buff with a lighter compound.

Well, I'm just happy to get the car back. when i dropped it off I was expecting it to be perfect in everyway....but my patience ran out and I just wanted the car back...like I said...its going to be a daily driver and I dont want to be afraid to drive it, or cringe everytime I take it down to road or leave it parked downtown (I live in a not so good part of downtown S.A.)

Yup, I will ask him next week....but given the fact that our relationship is falling apart, Im sure he will say that its not thick enough to wetsand.

I've done some wetsanding before and have all the necessary supplies....its just a matter of making the decision to break out the abrasives or not.....we shall see
