flashstang04
Well, this is different, I have always owned mustangs and have also wanted a z my whole life. I finally picked up a 74 260 and it is in pretty good shape. I realize that these are down on power from the other models, but I hope to change that little by little. I guess I have the common newbie questions: will it be hard to fix my dashlights. (they come on and go off when they want). Did a search on the fumes coming in, found some good stuff. Is there anything I need to know that is specific to the 74 that I need to watch out for. I realize that these are just like the questions I read on the mustang boards concerning what gears to use and whats the best mod, etc. So be gentle!! Synlubes
Hello flashstang04 and welcome. The stock 260 flat top SU carbs are not very good. Don’t waste any time on them, try to find some earlier round top SU`s or possibly some Webers. The stock 260 E88 cly head is an emissions head and not good for any performance mods. Don’t know what your plans are, stay with an L-series motor or a V-8 or other swap but you will find all the info you need here. Please use the search feature, a lot of your questions have already been asked and answered. Other than that, the 260 model (1 year production) is a good platform to build from.
