ZR8ED
Sheesh. I'm am proof of my own prophecy of going over budget on my project. I made a HUGE mistake by changing the model year of my 300zxt engine. I originally installed an 86 300zxt driveline. I bought another engine from an 87 300zxt to rebuild while still enjoying my Z. 86-87 is the cross over year for the engines in 300zx's Sent 87 driveline to be balanced.. uhhh an 87 flywheel which is 10" and an 86's is 9.25".. this means my recent clutch in the z now is now useless. Found a lightweight front pully with only 2 drivebelt pullies. got it balanced with driveline.. it was from an 84... guess what.. the part of the crank that sticks out of the front of the front cover is longer than on the 87 than the 86 and older... soo.. i needed a custom spacer made to go in between the pully and the crank bolt.. (like a washer) Hmm what next you say.. how about the 87zxt engine I have must have been the only one in the world with out an oil cooler hook up.. So we had to convert the block to the style that uses an oil cooler (needed a freeze plug and remove the check ball from the block. (not a big prob..just anoying.) as i have the 86 engine to use for parts.. Other than that its has gone very well. engine looks killer now.. all cleaned/painted etc.. I'm now a few weeks behind schedule as I have waited for parts to be delivered or made. The suspense is killing me.. O well, I've been there before...no mountain is too big if you through enough TNT errrr Money at it! hehe I had no idea the engines were that different... but they are.. trust me.. lots of little tiny things... good thing I have the 86 engine in the shop as well as an 84 that I have been canabalizing for a few years. Lockjaw
Why can't you use the flywheel and clutch off the other engine? Is the bolt pattern different? If the 87 has the 250 mm clutch, I would consider that a good way to go. Use the 89 disc and the TT pressure plate. Cheap and sticky.
