Guest Aaron
I have been casually looking for a zero turn riding mower for about 6 months now. My yard is one acre, and I am looking to expand it into the pasture (or hopefully buy the trailer next door and add that to my yard). It is formerly pastureland and therefore the grass grows very fast and very tall. I have come across a used Scag Cougar mower with ~900 hrs at the local Scag dealer. The retail on this machine new is $7995 locally, and this machine is $4700. Up to this point I have mainly narrowed my search to the John Deere SST ($4900 locally) and the Snapper Yard Cruiser ($4200 locally). Any Scag has been out of my price range up to this point. The JD and the Snapper do not come with baggers, however it is something I might have added in the future. Is there anyone here who has an opinion or experience with any of these machines? I want the Scag, and would probably also use it occasionally to bag my grandmother’s yard (lots of trees/leaves). I also know that the Scag is a commercial machine and therefore should last me much longer than the other two using much less. Does anyone know of a web site that discusses these things somewhat fairly? I have looked at www.lawnsite.com , but they appear to be quite biased to their sponsors. I have only test driven the snapper. Thanks in advance.
Tim240z
Hmmm. Buy one with a blown engine and drop a V8 in it! ...... Sorry couldn't resist!, and have absolutely nothing of value to add to your post/question. Tim
Guest Aaron
Tim, I would have to buy it and keep it until it becomes a "classic" before I hack it up. However, It would be cool with a Harley engine...
Guest Aaron
Nevermind, I talked with a local mowing contractor, and he said that he and his crews like the cougar he has. He also said he had looked at the machine I was looking at, and it has been abused and he would not buy it.
