pjo046
I wan't to sound dampen my 240Z after tearing it completely apart. I will remove the heavy asphalt mats inside, and replace them with something water resistant and lighter. I want the car to be as quiet as possible, but at the same time, I want to add as little weight as possible. Any recommendations for a lightweight, but good sound dampener? That is also waterproof? buZy
I recently saw some materials used in marine industry. Stuff to absorb sound and take engine heat too. I would imagine some what water resistant as well. Don't know what it is but it looked like space age foil with closed cell foam laminated. Light wieght too. Probobly expensive but looked like very high quality stuff.
DavyZ
Any recommendations for a lightweight, but good sound dampener? That is also waterproof? I know a few people have Rhino liner or something similar (basically spray-on bedliner for pickups) that is platic/rubber and would make a great, tough, waterproof, sound dampening material. Plus, it comes in whatever color and you can chuck your floormats after that! 'Brown bread,' Dynamat, etc, have also been used. I happen to have gotten a good deal on Dynamat so I have to install that, but I also have some "roll-your-own" truck bed liner as well. Just some ideas HTH. 240hoke
There is a really cool product called lizard skin, muscle motorsports, a local race shop near me sells the stuff. Its a spray on product that looks much like undercoating. It is really cool stuff, we heated a sample on 1/8" aluminum from the back with a torch for 30 seconds and you could still touch teh lizard skin side. They are marketing it to be spray in race car cockpits. Anyway it runs about 150 a gallon or something like that. I used a dynomat rip off to do my floor, its cheap and works. If i would have known about lizard skin before i would have been tempted but its expensive. -Austin
