Hey guys, today at a local weekly car show I came across a guy selling a 1985 GN with 70k miles for $7300 bucks. Does this sound like a good deal? I don't know anything about GN's but a guy there was saying that the '85s were no good, something about not being intercooled. It looked like it was in really good shape, had one small spot of rust on the drivers side door, but I couldn't check it out really good because it was dark. Didn't hear it run either, but the guy said it ran great (of course he would). Lots of people were asking the seller questions and writing down the phone number. I think I will give him a call first thing in the morning if this sounds like a good deal. So is there anything in particular I should know about this year GN, or anything I should look for if I check it out tomorrow? It would be a big help if you guys could give me some pointers. Thanks in advance!

'86 and '87 is what you want to look for. Earlier GN's weren't of much value. His price is to high for that year, but then again, I haven't seen the car, it could be pristine. A little advice, never look at a car in the dark and never take the sellers "word for it". Make sure it does what you want it to do and looks the way you want it to before you purchase it.

FYI, my buddy just picked up an '87 GN with 12K miles on it for $10k (a car like this would go for around $20k+). This car still smells brand new! No modifications done to it (unbelievable). This thing has had only a small hand full of oil changes done to it. All records kept for it. Still has the factory air filter and factory tires! Some old fart had kept it thinking it would go up in value over time.

Without hearing anything else about the car in question, I would say pass on it. Keep your eyes on the look out for an '86-'87 GN.

A lot of people were writing down the phone # because that car can be parted out for more than he is asking.

!M!

If you intend to take a GN to the track and have some fun with it, you probably want a 86-87 Intercooled. The 84-85 model, referred to "Hot-Airs" do not have the same HP potential. For mere pennies, you can get an I/C'ed model in the 12s.

Sometimes 86-87 engines are swapped into the early models so check for that. The stock 85 engine has the turbo sitting right on top of the intake.

thanks guys, I wasnt looking for a GN in particular, but I didnt know there were that many differences between the years, in fact, I really didnt know anything about them at all. I had just seen them on autotrader for $10k+ and assumed that this might be a good deal considering the amount of people checking it out. I would never buy a car without giving it a thorough inspection (in daylight) and without a test drive, so I told the guy I'd call him today, but after hearing what you all had to say, I don't think I will. Thanks for your help! 2thumbs.gif
