Wanted advice on injector cleaning solvents

Here comes trouble

Recommended Posts

I want to flush my fuel injection system in the 1978 GTO 250 project. The fuel tank (was clean upon removal) is out and what I have in mind is to use the Z electric fuel pump and flush a container of solvent thru the system. I also need a safe solvent to pre soak about 18 injectors in... The 78 280 Z set for two years and now wants to lay down and sputter. After 15 years, the solvent in my parts washer needs replacing. What would be a cheap solvent for the parts washer and to pre soak injectors and flush the fuel system.. any recomendations. What is "Sea Foam" ? http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/my_photos

When I was cleaning my Q-jet, I found out that gasoline won't even touch some of the gunk. So I looked at a can of commercial "carb cleaners" and one of the main ingredients is "methanol". I happened to have a gallon of methanol (or called "methyl hydrate"). Soaked the parts in methanol and within seconds I see the dark brown gunk start to diffuse. The part is very clean after that, mind you the gunk on the carb was so thick you can carve pictures on it with a nail.

methanol is also used as paint stripper, so if you want to use it as a general parts washer then don't use it on painted parts. It is particularly effective on removing fuel-derived gunk and varnish but will not remove grease/oil/wax AT ALL. Methanol is the stuff they put in fake wine, it can cause blindness if taken internally. Methanol is water soluable and combustable. Be careful with that.

BG makes a good line of products to clean out your fuel system you might want to try and look them up, they have the whole nine yards, intake cleaner, injector and one for the gas tank, pretty good stuff.

Here is a link to theyre product line if you would like to learn more about them.
