Here is a post that i made a while back about the 5.0's. this should give you more than enough info to make a decision on which year 5.0 is best for you.

IMO' date=' the best 5.0 engines are the 89-92 engines. The86-88 use Speed density(unless its a california car, in which case it runs mass air which is a good thing) and 93-95 use crappy Hypereutectic pistons.

79-84

-175hp rating

-non-roller blocks

85

-first roller block

-600-cfm Holley carb

-210 hp rating

(automatics still used CFI)

86

-roller block

-forged pistons

-first year of speed density(not a good system)

-stiffer block

-crappy heads

87-88

-roller block

-forged pistons

-First year of the E7TE heads which are pretty good for a stock head.

-still uses Speed density

-225hp rating

89-92 engines(88 california cars have mass air too so they are good as well)

-forged pistons

-roller cam

-mass air(much better than the speed density that came with the 88-below cars)

-225hp rating

93

-changed to Hypereutectic pistons

-power drop to 205hp

94-95

-HO engine with E7TE heads

-Hypereutectic pistons

(not sure about power rating)

hope that helps[/quote']
