MaTTSuN
well my turbo still wont run right. I have cleaned everything checked all the sensors and all that fun stuff. The problem is it never runs smooth, well not never but rarely. those are the fun spots. The last thing i did was clean the ECU and it run great for a min then back to running like a tractor then runs a little ruff and then good and then ruff then like a tractor and so on. any alien wizerdry that can solve my frustrating turbo swap? HB280ZT
MaTTSuN, The only time my car ever ran like a tractor it was a bad connection on the Coolant Temperature Sensor in the head. For your problem maybe you have a wire problem between your sensor and the ECU, a short. So I would do a wire check from the sensor to the ECU middle plug YG wire and then try moving the connector as the car is running to see if that changes the symptoms. Good luck!! On another note at least your swap runs. When I put in my 82 harness and ECU the car would not even run. Oh well, maybe in the next month or so I will try the swap again and hopefully it will work this time. HB280ZT
MaTTSuN
asome thanks!! the only thing i need to know is witch sensor is the one for the ecu? the 2 wire or the one wire??
HB280ZT
MaTTSuN, The sensor that I am talking about is located passager side rear of engine head, Cylinder head temperature sensor . As for the 2 on the thermostat housing, driver side front, one is a water temperture sensor (single pin plug) and the other has a single wire with a bullet connector on the end. This sensor i think is called a thermal transmitter, thermotime switch or something like that. But you have to remember that my engine was from an 82 280ZX turbo so yours may have a different setup. As for which is used by the ECU I think both are, that is what I have figured out with my wiring harness. I hope this helps. HB280ZT
MaTTSuN
ok now imade sure all the connections are good and everything seemsto work. the problem is it wont drive. I guess under load its not getting enuf spark and the plugs foul. im thinking its the + hook-up on the coil.... well thats where im going to start. im tihnking of putting + from the battery and see if that solves it. it will be on a switchso i can turn it off and see if there is a diff with it on and off.... will this hurt my ignition or is this safe? i just want to be sure its getting enuf volts. then ill go threw everything else...maybe the coil is bad.. i have new wires and i think i did the cap and rotor.. TheNeedForZ
Matt, Since I don't have a zxt engine, I am not sure if the 280zxt engine has an oxygen sensor. If it does, you might want to see if the oxygen sensor needs replacing. A bad OS is one of the things that makes a car run bad. I also heard the 81zxt engine has a crank angle sensor that malfunctions easily. You might want to do a search on that. Most people replace it with later versions, like the one on a 83zxt As a last resort, you can always pay a good mechanic to diagnose your car. Troubleshooting a car problem is a systematic process. Most of the time such process requires tool and knowledge that we don't have. It's better to let the professionals handle it than to do random things here and there which can damage your car. MaTTSuN
are you talking about the o2 sensor? thats the first new peice iput on the car. as for the CAS im not sure what one thats not working right does. my car only runs bad under load... so i guess it could be anything in the ignition. Im going to try a couple more things and if nothing then its going to a shop, godi hate paying for work on a car but if it gets this beast running then i guess its money well spent, i cant ride my bike avery much longer .......dam
