JoeinCA
...slide into a curb at 30 mph, sideways... http://joezcar.freewebspace.com/custom.html Thats a picture of my old halfshaft, taken by Eric Neyerlin of Zparts. I was wondering if anyone else has blown a halfshaft like that around here... thanks, Joe (i posted this in the drivetrain section, but i dont think it belongs there, it is more of a "Der looky what i can break" post than anything else.) Guest greimann
I don't want to trivialize hitting a curb, but what is broken? It just looks like you hydraulically unpressed the grease cap. Push it back in and motor on??
JoeinCA
I was just wondering if anyone had done that... In order for me to compress the halfshaft like that, the rear crossmember had to bend about 2-3" in total change (vertically, and horizontally) it also bent both of the vertical mounts that go to the rear crosmember, damaging all four of the bolts that held them, shearing one completely off......and some other major damage to the unibody and rear suspension. This happened quite a while ago. I repaired the rear suspension and drove the car for about 6 mos. with the bent unibody and other smaller problems caused by the accident. Then I decided to rebuild the entire car from the unibody up, 5 months later, and it runs/drives. But i still have a week or two before it will be my daily driver. That about sums it up, Joe. Note: Be careful out there, it's a real pain to rebuild your car.
