Lewis Maudlin
What are you guys using for gauges in your SR20DET powered Datsuns? Specifically what did you do about a speedometer? Is there anything that mates up or does it have to be fabbed? What about other gauges? I have my motor on order. I should be up an running in about two weeks. Anyone know of anything else I need to do? Thanks.
Guest PROJECTRB240SX
I have a stock speedo in my car.... Although I can't lend a hand in how to get it to work but I know vildini knows of a way to get it to work. On a sr20det there are three required gauges in my opinion Water temp, Oil pressure, and boost.... everything else is additional.
Hugh
Well, uh, the tachometer will keep you from throwing rocker arms as well. Keep your RPM down.
Guest PROJECTRB240SX
The tach should always be a given.... well at least to me. Yes a Tach is very important.
Hugh
The tach should always be a given.... well at least to me. Yes a Tach is very important. I assumed that as well. Kind of a no-brainer.
SR240Z
yea if you are running stock ecu and ignition you need an electric tach and a distributorless ignition adapter from MSD or Autometer.
Guest PROJECTRB240SX
since we are on the topic of gauges.... Alex how do you guys convert the speed sensor to work with the stock gauge? I want to go to an adjustable Electric speedo so I can adjust for the tire size and diff ratio that is far from stock. If you don't want to release this I understand, I'm just trying to figure out if you altered the trans speedo sleeve or just the sensor drive used. SR240Z
to run the stock speedo we usually run the mechanical sensor that was in the L series tranny before we swapped it out. you can put in an SR sensor and cable and then run your electric speedo if you wanted to as well. Guest PROJECTRB240SX
So There Were No Internal Modifications? This Means I Can Just Remove The Mechanical Sensor And Run My Electric Sensor?
SR240Z
no internal modifications at all

Lewis Maudlin
So what are you guys using for a Tach? I have the other gauge issues taken care of. I need to figure out the tach. Is there any way to make the stock tach work? I have replaced all of the other gauges except the speedo and tach. I would like to keep them, but if I have to, I will replace. Anyone? mario_82_ZXT
I have no personal experience with this in particular, but I know the 280z tach are triggered from the (-) side of the coil. But then again, they've been known to be inaccurate. Why not replace it? Someone on here got a smaller tach and placed it in the stock location. Looks great and is accurate. Just my opinion, Mario
