oinojo
at my local junks...i have found an 85 300zx turbo and i was wondering if there was an easier way to removing the turbo. Ive thought of different ways in trying to remove it but they are all block by impossible angles for my tools to work in. I was thinking of just taking out the whole engine and removing it like that, but i dont know if its worth it for that turbo...
TheNeedForZ
I found the exact thing at my local JY. Was trying to remove it but later I found out he wants 125$cdn for it even though there is shaft play. I could get one off eBay for the same price. I did see a volvo turbo lying around in the JY office, probably taken off by the JY operator to sell it off quickly. What they did was remove the exhaust manifold from the head and then use a sawzall to cut off the pipe after the exhaust turbine housing. The end result is the entire turbo come off with the exhaust manifold attached, with a short section of sawed off exhaust pipe. If you do not have sawsall you'll have to jack the car up and work under the car to get to the bolts&studs.
oinojo
i found it impossible from under the car...the turbo bolts to the manifold are impossible to get to without taking out the turbo cartridge. The steering rack is in the way as well... im thinking im better off hauling the motor out just enough to get to the manifold/turbo... Guest theZ
The quickest way to do it is just to unbolt the drivers side manifold from the head & crossover, loosen the oil return line and cut or unbolt the exhaust from the 02 housing/exhaust elbow and then simply pull out and up on the drivers side manifold and the entire unit (turbo, Manifold, O2 Housing) will come out in one piece. OneSickZ
unbolt driver side motor mount. jack oil pan up as high as needed. motor will tilt enough to give you plenty of room to remove the whole driverside manifold. and pull out on top through hood. walla.
