randy 77zt Posted October 17, 2005 Share Posted October 17, 2005 what year 5 speed is it?most die because speedo gear leaks oil and causes trans to run low on gear oil.if trans is quiet in 4th you have worn counter shaft bearings.i can work on datsun trans if you want to bring it out to modesto.i have a box of used trans parts -and nissan still sells parts.if you know a trans well a test drive before tear down will have you knowing what to look for.
