KraZeeZX
Hey, Sorry for the delays and missing updates. Unfortunately, the whole "Done in 2 weeks" thing that I posted a while back isn't going to come through. I'm having hood clearance problems with the Vortech so it looks like I may be having to find a slight cowl. As far as progress... here's what's been done: - Firewall and trans tunnel were cut and rewelded. - My full LS1 block is in the engine bay with the supercharger sitting on top. - A cut had to be made on the underside of the hood to accomidate the throttle body, now work needs to be done to fit the Vortech. - Custom brake lines have been run. - A custom radiator and dual 2-speed fans are on the way. - A Painless wiring harness is also on the way. - Battery moved to the trunk I think that's about it for progress... here's what still needs to be done: - Fit the custom radiator/fans and run the hoses. - set up the throttle cable - install shifter (the t-56 went right to where it needed to be!) - Fuel lines - Clutch lines - Power steering lines - wire up the entire car - get the vortech to fit (I am going to try to get it underneath the stock hood at all costs before I go looking for a cowl) - install Boost and A/F gauges - exhaust - start her up and burn rubber until I find some fatter wheels! I'll make a big big big update this weekend when I get some time with a few of the newest pictures. Get ready guys! If I can get the hood to fit soon, then the car will be done quicker!!! A month from now at the longest... lets keep our fingers crossed that she's done next week so I can make it up to the Austin 180 mile Z cruise!!! Thanks for all the interest and support guys! You know I'll make you all proud once she's out on the street! -Vann
David K
Sweet man! I cant wait for pics. How is the hood fitment coming along? If you cant fit it, what scoop do you have in mind?
KraZeeZX
We have hood fitment!! So now my "slow" NA will look just like she always has! I would say "sleeper," but too bad I won't be fooling anyone with the whining noise from the front and the rumble from the rear. I may be installing some electronic cutouts for my exhaust to deaden the rumble a bit until I bust em open. Unfortunately that all depends on expenses and right now I've been running into a LOT of them! Just the custom radiator and painless wiring harness together are nearly $1000 !!!! Oh well, it will all be done sooner or later... just sooner if I get everything paid for quickly!! The supercharger is going to be ULTRA loud now since my hood has been sanded down to an extremely thin sheet right over top of where it sits! I need to find some way to dampen the noise (maybe some sort of high-temp dynomat er somethin) at least until I can trade in my V-9 for a Vortech SQ (super-quiet) trim supercharger! Then I can have some fun! I'll put a bunch more stuff up on the website this weekend so you can try and check out the progress. I CANT WAIT UNTIL SHE's DONE! ToplessZ
Ive heard that the s trim superchargers make a huge sound difference. Sorry to be daft but what is an electron cutout and why did your hood have to be sanded?
KraZeeZX
Ok, More changes since that last little post... Hood fitment was flase! There is actually no way to get the hood closed with the Supercharger on there. I was trying to keep up to date with a shop that's working on it and we had some miscommunications. Actually, instead of having my stock hood... it's going to have to be cowled about 3-4 inches!!! I'm kinda reluctant to do it since I'm worried about how the cowl will turn out looking on my car. It may ruin the body lines, but hey.. maybe I'll get lucky and it'll look good. ToplessZ, I was talking about electronic cutouts for the exhaust. Basically its a y-pipe where one side goes to your mufflers and the other side goes to a dump. The electronic cutout is simply a really big butterfly valve like what's in a throttle body. When the butterfly is closed, the exhaust runs through your normal mufflers, then.. with the electronic cutouts, you can flip a switch inside of your car and the butterflys open making your exhaust run on dumps from the headers! I've given up that idea though since my car is NOT going to be a sleeper in any way, shape, or form! With the huge hood and SC whine, I think I'll just settle for some nice 'ol grumbling mufflers to show off my extra 2 cylinders! I'm making updates to my webpage at the moment.. I will post a pic VERY soon of what my engine bay looks like so y'all can get an idea of how high my hood is going!
Guest Look A Z
KraZeeZX I saw something about that electric cutout exhast thing the other day on TNN. Sounds like a good idea if you don't want to get caught by the cops. Or you just want to scare people once in a while with a flip of a switch. Hehe, absolutely.. but now that my hood is going up, I don't think scaring the crap outta people will be a problem!
Guest Anonymous
Thats gonna be one bad ass Z32. I have to disagree with going with the supercharger you should have gone to LS1.com first and done all the regular mods. My buddy and his brother have LS1's (I drive too much for a V8 as a daily driver) and they are making as much power with out a SC and out running the SC's. WE have SLP day here at Ennis (texas motorspeedway) this saturday feb 15. Its basicly a LS1 drag day there. Last year Mike set the stock record which was faster than the SC record set that day too. Dont underestimate the LS1's capabilities. BUT I have to admit having a SC is very very cool

The only cars that outrun teh supercharged LS1's (possibly) are the ones running around with stage II heads, a meaty cam, headers, and all sorts of other stuff.. AND they have weight reduction. If you look at the top 100 list over at ls1tech.com... the fastest of the fast are all running with forced induction. Besides, I'd like to see how a 346 cid LS1 with all of it's bolt-ons, cam and such would stack up against mine once its done. I've done the math, Ive done the research, and let me tell you.. my car is not going to be losing to very many people. Vortech V-9 running @ 9psi EGR Mod True-dual exhaust (something that most LS1's dont have) Custom intake Various other free mod typer things... If you put that together, along with my 3200# race weight... with traction I'm looking at mid to low 10's buddy. I know very well what the LS1 is capable of and the supercharger is going to make it that much more fun. The next step for me is a 427 stroker with heads/cam and upping the boost to 20psi... I dont think there are any other LS1's out there that would be able to compete with that... cept for possibly the lengenfielter ones . There are many underlying reasons as to why I went with a supercharger too so you have to take those into account as well... 1)Cheaper (i got a great deal) 2)I cant run long-tube headers (thats 60rwhp on ls1's) 3)Its more unique this way 4)Too many others to list It's really hard to compare 2 Ls1's anyway, expecially an NA one and an SC one... Those NA Ls1's are NOT stock... you're looking at an entirely new valvetrain and cam basically. PLUS all bolt-ons (which I cannot get in mine)... the FASTEST heads/cam LS1 that is still 346cid is putting down ~460rwhp and `~430rwtq. Now I will say that that is damn impressive, and I was oging to take that route.. but once I'm done.. I will be putting down ~550rwhp and ~600+rwtq! Now how could a non-SC ls1 take out one that clearly has 100 more hp?? Not to sound like an ass or dog you for that, but I'm just confused! I think you may have seen some beasts for NA's running against some mildly tuned SC ls1's. AND the non-SC ls1's could have been strokers. If I had the choice (and money) I would have instantly gone with a 422 stroker instead of a SC, and I coulda make the same amount of HP without any forced induction... but strokers are WAAAAYYY too much $ for me! Please explain to me more indepth exactly which cars you are talking about, what kind of numbers they are showing (hp, tq, and 1/4 mile), and how they are beating out supercharged ones! The problem with comparing them is that there are just so many factors.
ToplessZ
for your hood scoop you should make sure to go with something aero dynamioic an up to date rather than the old school 3 or 4 inch cols that everyone and there brother iwth a camero or chevelle have. I know there are some decent options out there. Id give it a look. Cant wait to see what this thing will do

The body shop it's at does some excellent work, I just hope they have enough common sense and taste to make the cowl match the bodylines of the Z and keep it looking decent. I'll be happy with the power, but if my car looks like crap I'm gonna be really pissed! Let's just hope for the best!
