badjuju
Anyone done this, what were the gains, and are there any downsides?
Guest 73Turbo240z
lol mines 3.75... use the search, 2.5" will suit most applications... (except mine, cause i'm insane.)
EZ-E
If you have a stock turbo a 2.5 inch DP will do you just fine with a 3 inch exhaust. Remember that the outlet on the stock turbo is only 2.25 inches!
badjuju
stock is 2"?
GrayZee
Hasn't this been discussed 100 times already?
Guest 73Turbo240z
yes and general concensus was 2.5" was good to 400hp i believe... hence why i said search.
Jersey
EDIT: i found your post. Hey 73Turbo240z - got any pictures of your 3.75" DP? I'd love to see it. Also, what size exhaust are you running? Obviously it's at least 3.75" or larger... or, no exhaust at all. Interesting.
Guest 73Turbo240z
no i tapered the exhaust down to 3" just before it tucks under the floorpan... they say 3" will flow 600hp or so, and i'm not going to be making near that much, so no need for a sewer under the car... w/ the HX35 it would run a 3" downpipe and exhaust, but for whatever the reason holset designed the HY35 with a 3.75 and a much better wastegate puck placement, so it got a 3.75" ID initial to 3" final... i figure it should make for some good spooling given the smooth transition... probally will sound pretty unique too. Biggest factor in staying 3" on mine was i don't pop hood, so if they peek under the car... just a generic run of the mill 3" system.
