ZR8ED
Yesturday was an Ontario Z Car driver training/track day at Shannonville raceway. 10 turns with a 1/4 mile straight away. All flat with mostly flat runoff areas. A pile of Z's arrived, as well as 4 BMW's a Camaro, a couple of turbo'd XR4TI's, Porsches, and some plain cars, ie dodge avenger, chev beretta, Golf. It was sunny and hot at the track all day, and most people had a blast testing their cars and their skills. Now I can write all day about what happened, but I'll keep it to a minor report on my VG30ET powered 280Z with 18lbs of boost. Even with it being hot, my engine temps were absolutely normal, even at mid day. Power was wicked, and surprisingly easy to control, though I carried so much speed, I was shifting more than the other z's. I was getting in to higher gears on the various straightaways. Man did this car pull. But this is not the best part.. THE HANDLING!!! MAN does this car turn... it almost feels like steering one of those 4 wheel steering cars. Dead flat through the turns, and it ate up all kinds of mistakes I made. I never pushed the car over its limits.. it just kept turning the harder I pushed it. (I never did find its limits) It is very neautral feeling, and very light and tossable through the "S"'s I was able to get on the power very early in the exit and the car just tracked straight and ate the power and put it down, I never fishtaled once!. I was worried with this much torque, I would give it too hard, and just spin, but nope it just went. Also to report, the car is working well with my rear wheel adapters, and I am sure the extra 3" of track in the rear was making the car more stable. It felt very safe, and controlled. The brakes seem to work better with the weight being more even now.. (not as much weight on the front under braking) I was extremely impressed and surprised!! till my ignition packed it in... could not get it going..had to be towed home, and cruised back in my friends Z and followed the tow truck home. (1 and 1/2 hour tow) Expensive day. Price of racing I suppose.. Not angry though, it was near the end of the day anyways. New ignition module to be installed this week.. I'll be back on the hunt soon. hehehe
pparaska
Track days are a blast, huh! Glad you had a good time and the car worked so well (until the ignition). Sounds like you have a really tight package!
R0N
Mann... that sounds like a lot of fun. I still have a long way with my Z before I can safely road race. I hope my car responds like yours at the track.
