ASA240Z
I just finshed rebuilding my SU carbs and adding MSA headers. Well I think I have a couple of problems... first when I first started the car in ran, but I not sure if I running on all 6...I cant tell... I noticed the there seems to be more fuel in the front carb intake while a little less in the rear. So im wondered if the car is running on 3 cylinders. Also I noticed the first 3 exhuats and intake runners for the front car are noticibly hotter than the three on in the rear. Shouldn't the temp be close to the same on all 6 runners? In general the everying in for the first 3 cylinders are hotter than the last three. the second poblem is that I noticed that the headers seem to be smoking a little bit...Is this do to the paint burning? I bought the black coasted MSA headers So I want to ask you guys if these are signs of running on less that 6 cylinders. plz helps I afriad to drive the car knowing that it might be damaging the motor... zeiss150
The headers will smoke for about an hour or so or untill the paint burns off. MSA uses regular paint for there headers, I guess they didn't want to pay the extra $5 for high temp header paint. As far as weither or not you are running on 3 cylinders, Im no expert but it probably wouldn't run on just the front three. This is just a guess but the front 3 might be hotter because your front SU is running to lean. I could be totaly wrong on that but it's just a guess. richen up the front carb a bit and see what happens. if it's still hot... well then you know thats not the problem. Good luck. AK-Z
From my understanding, it can be 2 basic problems, fuel or spark. With the heat issue I would assume fuel , but that all depends on how hot thay are running. To test for spark: while running, unplug the wire from the spark plug. The engine should sound different. Hold the end of the cord close enough to the spark plug to see a spark arc across, I would say about 1/2 to 1/8 of an inche away. try on all cylindars, one at a time. If you don't hear a change in the engine when you unplug the wire, then that means no spark or no fuel.
