Guest 350z1973
So this is my first post, but I'll get all the simple stuff out of the way before everyone asks. I have a 350 out of a 1976 corvette that was 8.5:1 originally. everything but the block, crank, pistons and rods had been replaced. starting at the top: edelbrock performer 750 carb, edelbrock air gap intake, AFR 195 aluminum heads (74cc chambers), comp cams 272 cam (232@.050) and approx 540 lift (can't remember exact) new lifters, timing chain etc. Anyways the problem I have is the motor will rev fine when in park, but when you try to drive it it will backfire and die out. At very low rpm you can get power out of it, but if you hit the gas it will die. just changed the advance springs and weights tonight, dist. is hei from the corvette with new cap rotor and ignition module. A possible problem is the distributor is only adding about 16 degrees advance. Not sure about the vaccum, and tomorrow im plugging it to check if it makes a difference. I have set base at 12, to total is 28 and the same problem happens. When i set total to 36 (base 20) it is the same. I am about out of ideas for now, please help if you can.
