Guest SouthGaZX
have a stock 77 280z just purchased it.. the fuel pump wasnt getting power.. traced it under the 2+2 seat and found it had been disconnected there. i reconnect it.. turn the key switch on.. the car will not even turn over anymore.. it does for a SPLIT second.. then boom.. nothing.. then the second time.. doesnt turn over.. but voltmeter still shows correct voltage.. 3rd time.. voltmeter shows nothing car does nothing... then i disconnect neg battery terminal.. put it back on.. it will do the half turnover thing.. disconnected the fuel pump it STILL does the same thing.. before it would turn over and turn over and turn over.. sounding like it was tryin to dry start (cuz it was.. no fuel) now.. even after disconnecting the fuel pump again.. it wont even turn over.. well it does but only for a SPLIT second... any ideas guys? kcelectronics
Are your Dash Lights coming on? is the fuel pump working now, have you tried to spin the starter from under the hood? (jump 12V direct to the small connector on the solenoid)

kcelectronics
Have you tried to fiddle with the Ign. switch they are renowned for causing starting problems; I have to turn my 77 3/4 of the way to the start position to start it! if I quickly turn the key all the way the starter will spin for a fraction of a second then stop! Guest SouthGaZX
hmm have to try that too.. its dark now though.. an i dont have my shop built yet.. it turned over every time before though... up UNTIL i plugged in that darn fuel pump
Zraced...
I can't imagine a fuel pump would load down the circuit to the starter. You could run 12V to the fuel pump power to see if it will turn on. Maybe you have a bad starter solenoid.
Mr.INSANE
Check your fusible links thats what ended up causing my starter to not work.
Guest SouthGaZX
sorry for not posting that i figured it out... somehow the positive wire came loose in the terminal... lol when you buy a car someone else has fooled with you NEVER know what you're going to run into... also while draining the fuel tank found that the back driver lugs arent even tight lotta odd stuff.. lol
