Chaoticmass
Got my wriing harness and got to thinking about how I'm going to be wiring things and I'm starting to feel like this guy The most wiring I've done is speaker wires. Cut, strip, twist, tape. Thats all. Whats the good/easy method for joining wires together under the hood?
Metro
I put heatshrink wrap on and then soldered all the wires together. Looks much cleaner and more professional this way, IMO.
proxlamus©
Cut, strip, twist, solder, shrink
Chaoticmass
Sounds like I should pickup a heatgun, heatshrink, soldering iron, solder wick, and solder. Anxious and excited at the same time. I have limited mechanical skills, but I have some people helping me. Hopefully all will go well. Car currently has turbo motor swapped in and is waiting for the MS. I start installing tomorrow.
Chaoticmass
Dumb Question: In this picture http://www.bgsoflex.com/mspower/mspowercomplete.jpg How are those power wires fastened? Solder?
proxlamus©
yep solder... oh DONT buy plumbers solder... buy electrical solder...
mobythevan
and buy electrical solder with flux in it already, same goes for de-solder wick/braid, if you need that, get it with flux already on the braid.
Sumo
Go to Harbor Freight on Story near Grauwyler, they'll have most of what you need and if not Radio Shack is right around the corner from them.
trwebb26
But don't buy a crappy soldering iron... get a Weller or other high end brand. Something with replaceable tips. It will pay for itself in the frustration it will cause you.
ngrimm
I use a lighter to shrink the tubing. But you have to be careful. I actually used a butane soldering iron to assemble my MS but I went thru a lot of butane.
