Help me decide on louver layout for rear panel

1st off, what's this gonna cost me ? i mean in the long run.

 

what affect is it gonna have on crap under the car getting caught in air turbulances.

will those louvers have any affect and if so, what is the effect ?

 

if this is gonna be something i am gonna have to live with, i need to know this stuff.

 

as far as looks go ( if i could have spelled the word aesthetically, i would have used it here. doesn't spell like it sounds, does it ), i like the very last one. not as busy as the others.

 

though i am not too sure i like the direction you are going here, but is most certainly a good sign. to me any way !

and per our earlier agreement, my dream is getting closer to coming true.

 

now, i can sweeten the deal, if it's sheer boredom and you aspire ( how's that for a word ??? ) to start something, my original cash offer stands and i will toss in my slightly customized v8 240z. it's still in design phase, you could punch holes, flare this, lift that, lower a bit over here. maybe channel the body over some custom rails, you know maintain the stock suspension travel, but give the appearance of being a couple inches off the ground. absolutely no one would accuse you of messing with perfection, i can guarantee that !

 

come on now, my bored friend, surely sounds interesting to the tinkerer in you. we know it does. for as long as i have been poking sticks at my z, reengineering on the fly, i am sure you've thought, you know if it were me, this is what i'd do.

 

i'll even toss in the 2 brand new nissan fenders, both of the msa aero 2 body kits, msa mirror kit, fiberglass cowl induction hood and 150 lbs of misc parts.

 

the topper ... an autographed picture of me, standing next to my z, authenticating that i once owned it.

 

now, you mull that over, while i ponder you punching hole in the rear valance.

I didn't read all of the posts in this thread, so someone else might have recommended this already...

 

Rather than louvres, which would look kind of ugly in my opinion, why not just keep air from getting caught back there in the first place? Just use some sheetmetal to close off that section so the air doesn't get trapped. Nobody will see it, and it should get you the same effect.

I know I tried to say something to the effect of "reverse the louver openings ... for a smoother appearance." But people aren't understanding that this was the plan from the beginning. The louvers would be punched so that the lip was inside of the car, with the opening pointed down. The outside would not have louvers protruding, but be smooth, with only rectangular holes, nothing protruding to catch rocks, your fingers as you washed it, etc. I'm obviously not great at getting the detailed points across.

 

2 columns, at an angle is what Terry PM'd to me as a solution. they'd be angled toward the centerline from top to bottom. Yes, with wider ones I agree it'd look better. But I don't have access to anything but a 3" or 4" punch.

 

Wayne, everyone saying don't do it - rest easy now . I'm calling the body shop on Monday to say for get about it. The rear panel hasn't even shown up yet (and it's been ordered for 3 weeks now - come on Charlie - ship that thing!!!! )
