bakerz
Last week I put in a pertronix ignition in my 1973 240z (stock) and I took it out on the highway to see how much difference it made. After about 5-10min of flying down the road, I decided to head back. I turned around and headed back, but as I slowed down to about 60mph i had a loud backfire and smoke started coming from the engine compartment and the muffler. I made it home and found out that oil was coming out of my exhaust in the engine compartment and also out of the muffler as the car ran. Thus the smoke. I think I killed it:( Have I cracked the block or what? Is it something that can be fixed with a rebuild or should I start looking for a new motor? 2126
Don't panic yet!!! Does the engine still crank over without any unusal noises?Do a compression and leak-down test. It could be a simple as some really bad valve stem seals. If you are not very familiar with engines, either do alot of reading or find someone you can trust, that knows what they're doing, take a look at it. Keep us posted.
