hoov100
i was poking around the cam today on my zx and noticed there is a spray bar for the cam, i was wondering how the hell could i miss this, but it apears the last owner rebuilt the head and changed the cam towers for a spray bar, so no internally oiled cam, its all external, could this be a potential problem? TheNeedForZ
No problems. You run a solid cam now but if you find an internally oiled cam that you want to use, the oil feed holes on the cam must be blocked off or the oil pressure will be bled off, that hurts buttom end oiling. It's actually a better setup. It allows any type of cams to be used(if you block off the oil feed holes like above mentioned), provides constant oiling. Some people also modify the spray bar to spray and cool the valve springs in a race.
zane9000
I am actually very interested in this. I have a mild cam from my E88 head that I wanted to put on my P90a but didnt think I would be able to because it was oiled differently. Is it an easy mod to do? I still have the old E88 head, could I just use the spray bar and whatnot from there? I have only looked under the valve cover once, then I got scared and put it back on So I dont really know much about how the head works, but I think Im ready to learn. hoov100
it apears to me that all he did was change the cam towers and added the spray bar....could i run both if i put stiffer springs in the oil pump to raise preasure?
TheNeedForZ
It's counter productive. Cam/valvetrain needs very little oil. The oil in the head comes from the block and is communicated thru a small jet. Since all oil comes from that small restriction, using BOTH system wouldn't give you any extra oiling. Too much oil in the valve cover = oil entering valve stem seal = residue getting stuck on backside of valve head = bad to air flow and some burning oil.
