Guest jwt
I am preparing to replace my front pads. I ordered the brake hardware kit and the front shim set from Victoria British (pads are coming from Modern Motorsports). The Shim set is a thin metal plate with an adhesive back. This does not resemble what is on the car and what is shown in the Datsun shop manual and the Haynes manual (labeled as Anti-squeal shim) The Victoria British catalog exploded view does however show the shims I have received and does not show the shims as pictured in the factory or Haynes manual. I am somewhat confused about this shim set. Is it a direct replacement for the existing shim set or is it in addition to the existing shim set ??. The Victoria British catalog would lead me to believe it is a replacement. I have not started any work on this yet but I am already confusing myself. I would hope as soon as I start work a giant light bulb will appear over my head and all will be clear...but I would rather ask the question and possibly appear foolish rather than screw something up and have to do everything over again. Thanks in advance.
bjhines
That is an alternate method to add anti squeal shims to the brakes... Many original designs used 2 or more plates with bent louvers or tabs to add springyness to the pads. I have quit using the original designs after they get squashed to death... the sticky back shims seem to do the trick.
