Does anyone have any information about installation of corvette stub axles? Jim Biondo used them on his 260Z but i have not seen anyone else here or any other website talking about using them. I would like to know what years will work and what modifications are involved in this modification. My project car is a 1977 280Z with chevy 406 and five speed 280 turbo cv half shafts. My roll cage is under construction as well as sub frame conectors etc. my idea is that by using corvette stub axles i will not have any weak links in that area. I still have to find my LSD unit however I am not rushing anything. I know stub axles are a problem when you have between 450-550 horse power. If anyone can help, please do.

HELP!!! Come on guys someone out there must know something about how Jim Biondo got those corvette stub axles to work on his car. He changed to five lug wheels an ford bolt pattern so i have been told. I have had my 1977 280z sense 1989. I drove it the first four years before the engine went. I planned from the star to go chevy v8. I got the car out of storage in 1999. It still has no rust. This question is for Pete Paraska. How much should I expect to pay for the machine work for my 280zx turbo cv half shafts. I really want to get this car on the road soon.

Sharkman, I've asked Jim for the details but he says his notes are to sloppy to give out and he'd want to better document what he did. I suggest you give him a call. Just so it's a bit of work (and I'm not actually typing his number here), hit the following site: http://www.datsuns.com/cars/jimbiondo.htm

I don't know alot of details, except they were C3 vette stubs that were after market hipo pieces so as to get a really strong piece. I think he used the stock C3 vette bearings with bushings that went between the outer race and the Z strut housing. The bushing has a step in it to capture the races to keep them located laterally. He had the axles drilled for the Ford bolt pattern to match the 300ZX 5lug pattern. He had a custom companion flange, nut and adapter to the CV shafts (280ZX Turbo) made up. NO IDEA how much this cost, but I'm betting it's 500-1000 US dollars for the parts mentioned and all the machine work.

This is all I know from discussions with Jim.

If you do get specifics or drawings, let me know.

PPARASKA, Thank you for your information about corvette stub axles. The guy that did the machine work on my engine owns a corvette and has a lot of friends that have corvetts with lots of parts laying around. I will find all of the parts and then I will call jim biondo. Thanks again for your help.

Cyind,

If you have pics, would you mind e-mailing them to me? Am working on installing a vette rear end in my z and would like to see how you tackled the project.

Thanks

Wow! I've got a 'vette IRS in the backyard (under a 64 chevelle 2 dr wagon...) I'd love details on that install, as the IRS could easily disappear from under the wagon & reappear under my 240...
