Guest 73TPIZ
Darlington Dragway is opening soon and the new owners have added a message board to the website. The import section has been idle for a couple of months so the owner's daughter felt bad and started a thread. One guy says the imports will give the domestics a run for their money. A Mopar guy, "Big Chip" said they haven't yet, so i had to elbow him a little telling him i'd have to make a call to Florida to get you guys to come up a make him eat crow. Chips 'Cuda is quick for a street car but it ain't no match for the 6cyls runnin' around Orlando. He's a super good guy and he did my 350 block and crank at his machine shop (the one still holding my engine stand down), hence the dig on machine shop guys in my post. Here's the link. http://darlingtondragway.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=88 Take care guys,
Z-Gad
LOL Charles, you are a bad man stirrin the pot like that !! Anyway, keep us posted on track status. I'm not sure how far Darlington is from us in in Orlando, but if it is a nice track and the owners are reasonable, maybe a future SEZ could be held there. Maybe having something in SC may draw some of the northeastern guys down.
Guest 73TPIZ
I had thought about that before but the previous owner seemed like a butthead and i never saw many f/y body, mustang, GN, or Mopar weekends so seemed as if he didn't want to work with the local clubs. The new owner is outta New Jersey where he owns another track. He's been dumping a lot of cash into improvements the last couple of months. Fixed a 20+ year old drainage problem that has the left lane staying wet for 2 days after a drizzle, repaving at least half if not all of both lanes, cleaning up, painting, etc. This one seems to care. The previous owner was out to make a quick buck w/out reinvestment. I'll get his take on track rental and get back w/ you. Initial thought is he'd be easy to work with. But the Silver Dollar guys would be some hard shoes to fill, just based on my limited experience w/ them. You're right about drawing in more northern members. Distance check has it about 100 mi more for you guys in Orlando (454 vs 359) but 300 mi shorter for say someone around DC such as Mikelly and pparaska (417 vs 764). Atlanta would be 200mi more though (100 vs 300) so may lose some of those guys. Wierd thing is SEZS seemed to draw as many from FL, AL, & further out than the guys right there in GA. Go figure. Cool thing is I20 and I95 intersect only 20 min from track in Florence and has plenty of hotels and restaurants. Straight shot from up and down the east coast or from the west. Plus Myrtle Beach is only ~1hr away so someone could go there first and make a long weekend of it. Some landlubbers may get permission from the wife if they throw that in there. Oh and last but not least we have a few Sonics close by to cruise around in a convoy in typical teenie bopper fashion. Can't beat that w/ a stick. And lots of grudge runs around here. You could prolly win your trip money back w/ your car. Take Care,
