2jz or LSx

Recommended Posts

What are you guys thoughts between these two swaps. From what I can tell the ls1, t56 swap is about the same weight that a 2jzgte swap. You get nearly twice the displacement with the same weight. Someone talk me out of putting one in and then turboing it down the road. Just seems logical to me.

Why do a Rb or 2jz if the LSx are so light and potent?

If I do a 2jz I'm likely going to put a turbo 400 transmission behind it with the Ross machine Racing adapter plate and flex plate:

So what is your vote? Sleeved ls2 block with ls7 heads and some nitrous, or a 2jz with a gt47-80 and a th 400.

I want a serious car, and am just trying to figure out what direction to travel.

Justin

Well It looks like its been proven that the 2jzgte is a serious conder as far as drag racing is concerned. With Z Gad just hitting a 9.5@ 145 I'm really questioning if I need anything faster then that. It seems that a 2jzgte would make the perfect driver for me since it wouldn't be as loud as a v8 with exhaust, plus it should get comparable if not better mileage.

Anyway, Just thinking this through.

Well, the choice comes down to you and what you intend to use the car for.

The LSx drivetrain is truly amazing and hasn't reached it's potential yet. .

The 2JZGTE has a proven recipe for power. it has been duplicated over and over.

If you want gas mileage, then the LSx T56 combo would net you better mileage than I see with my 2JZ, even with my 3:36 rear end, as the TH400 is only a 3 speed (no OD).

Either way, you'll ahve a potentride. If you choose to go the 2JZGTE route, just remember, the drivetrain is the inexpensive part. The expensive part comes with all of the add-ons (intercooler, turbo, engine management, injectors, fuel system, BRAKES, suspension, yadda, yadda, yadda)

Just my .02

Mike :-)
