Wheel Backspacing

Just wondering how much backspacing can be used with a stock suspension, and how much can be used on a coilover suspension. I'm planning on switching to a coilover, so if there is a big difference then I'll wait, if not, then I may get new wheels first.

the BS depends on the overall diameter.

its the tire that will hit he spring perch so thats the issue with coilovers.

most 16+ rims will fit under the oem perch so thats not the issue.

i believe a 16x7: with 0 bs is the correct one. if wider then 1/2" bs.

with coilover a stock z can use 8" and i've seen 9" on a unflared car. custom 3 pce wheels though.. simiilar to pete p. car 2be smile.gif

For the details on how I have 17x9 inch wheels and 255/45/17 tires on a stock fendered Z with coilovers, go to my site at:

With this setup, the wheel is so close to the coilover tube that it's the limiting factor on BS. Then again, the tire is close too.

Actually, that's offset you're talking about, Mike. It's usually 0 offset for 7 inches or smaller.

The maximum backspacing in the front is 4.375" from wheel mounting surface to spring. On the rear is 5". So if you use 7" rims, you can use 4.5" bs on all and use a 1/4" spacer in the front. I don't know about coilovers.
