4-piston Brake Calipers

Recommended Posts

At the wrecking ard today, noticed that 87 Mazda RX-7 Had 4 wheel disk brakes, vented rotors all around, and 4-piston (Aluminum?) calipers up front.

Has anyone tried putting these on a Z? The mounting lugs are about 6.25" OC, the rotor was about 5/8" thick, So I figure they would work on '84 300ZX Rotors

Sorry I can't be more specific, but yes I have heard about these calipers used on an early Z before. I believe it was a car out of australia, but I am not sure. I know whoever was running them did have a webpage.

Can anyone help us out?

the maxda IMO isnt a suitable replacement. the cars are so old now that finding good used ones in the wreckers are next to impossible, you will need to make brackets to bolt them on .. etc.. rebuilding them will cost at least $75 ea plus cores (15 ea) and still not be as good as the ones listed below. i've got a bolt on package in 4 lug with far better quality stuff for $550 .

if your going thru all that work use the Z32 or new outlaw or wilwood calipers.

Michael SPreadbury has the Rx7 setup on his vg30 v6 conversion 510, but he used the knuckles and all. and converted the car to double a-arm.

The bolt spacing is nowhere near the same I don't think..... the s30 caliper bolt spacing is much less than 6.25 inches in front.

If you're going to adapt calipers, consider the z32 calipers. They are readily available for cheap and are plenty big. They are also available in aluminum as well as cast iron.
