pparaska
quotewhen welding in new framerails from the firewall back;where should i support the chassis? As many places as possible . No, seriously, you should try to support it in several places ahead of and behind the area. Try to get even weight on all the points with shims. If you're looking for ideas on what/how it's been done, check my site Structural Mods G'luck!
Guest Anonymous
Yeah Pete's right, you would want to support as much as possible over the full length. If you weld in supports and the frame looks like a Oscar Meyer before you weld it, it'll look as bad if not worse afterwards accounting for the almost certain small amount of distortion welding will cause. Full support, weld in small sections at a time and skipping to keep from heating one section up to much will keep it from having that wiennermobile profile. Guest Drewz
The way I did mine was to support the vehicle with 2 4x4's from front to back and tack all the pieces in place. Than I got it towed to a frame shop where they tweaked it to ensure it was straight before I welded it all solid. It launches and stays very straight now and am completely happy with it. Jus' my 0.02 cents ------------------ The only stupid question is one you wanted to ask but never did!!! Drewz
