Guest Abkshelby79280ZX
Hi everyone, I am getting ready to be the new owner of a '79 280ZX my uncle has owned since 1981. Car has 144k on it and hasn't been driven since 1997. Needless to say the fuel system is a mess. The motor ran on ether last fall from what I hear. But I am getting the car this coming Saturday I hope. I am a Chrysler turbo freak by nature so this Z will definitely be something I will need advice on when it arrives. I am new to this forum and hope you guys will help me bring this car back to life. If I can get all the varnished gas out of it and likely a new fuel pump it may run I dunno yet. Wish me luck! Guest PR0ject datsun
drain the fuel tank and check all the hosing. your fuel filter might be gummed up...do some fuel system maintenence...see what else needs to be replace. start with the small stuff first, work your way up. New2TheZ2006
Cool, I am not the only one just starting out with this. I have 1976 280Z picking up this week. It is one of those that sat for a while and has all the parts stuffed in boxes in the passenger compartment. But!!! it starts and runs. That is the good news. Where do I go from here? Hope you dont mind me pigy backing your thread, but I think I am only one step ahead of you. I will be watching and maybe we can swop some photos.. PS I need a set of bolts for an alternator. I have new alternator to put in but I only have bracked mounted on engine no bolts. ANy ideas???
Guest Abkshelby79280ZX
Mine now runs although only on 5 cylinders at the moment. One injector doesn't want to join the party yet and is either gummed up or shorted. It will be quite awhile (Well maybe a few months worse case) before it's on the road but it will be. Still waiting for my uncle to get a duplicate title as he managed to lose the original. I still haven't taken any pics yet. Need to get around to that.
