Guest Anonymous
Hello Everyone- I have been reading for a while now and thought I would make a first post, as I have just gotten back from California (to Indiana), driving home my "new" 1977 280Z. I have been making plans now for several years to create a "supercar" of sorts out of one of these things, and have already bought a junkyard '95 LT1 350 and T56 6spd trans, and am working on rebuilding the LT1 to about 450 hp (stroked to 383). What I have in mind for the car is a complete drivetrain / suspension / braking system / steering overhaul, with power steering, full custom race brakes, and 17x9" wheels with 255/40/17 tires on all four (fender flares). Anyways, just thought I would pop in to say hi. Finding this site and many crazy people like me was like a little boy finding a free toy store. No doubt it will be fun getting to know some of you who are doing similar things to your cars. It is difficult for me to keep up with all the posts here, but please let me know if you have any comments on the above. specifically, has anyone put a power steering rack in their Z, and if so, what did they use? DavyZ
Welcome to the forum, Steve. It sounds like you are already getting underway with your project. I do hope that you are placing the engine in the JTR setback position when you do the swap. This will help with the steering feel a bit since you are also running wide tires. The power steering has been put in by a few people, among them "alsil" and "blueovalz" from the Ford V8 forum. Look for post in the archives under the "alsil" name and you'll find his website with tons of information. He is doing a commendable job of photographing and documenting his conversion. Hope this helps. David
Kevin Shasteen
Ditto what Davy said. Kevin, (Yes,Still an Inliner) PS: Davy-I'll catch you yet!
Andrew Bayley
Steve, I like the "little boy finding a free toy store" comment... so true. My advice is to start by checking out other peoples projects so you know who to ask first when it comes time. Most people are now posting web sites in personal signatures on this board. It seems that everyone's project is unique to the next. If you are into the quarter mile performance of Hybrid Z's, I've compiled a short little page with a few members and their times. Feel free to look around, or even submit your own times if you have some slips. Welcome -Andy ------------------ "But I don't sit idly by, I'm planning a big surprise."
