A bumpy ride

Recommended Posts

Something which spins is starting to hit something which doesn't appear to give when it's hit.

Under acceleration with anyone or anything in the car other than myself, or when i turn right, or when i go over a small bump, something repeatedly hits something else in the rear right section of the car. The rear shocks are the factory installed 1981 280zx turbo oil filled shocks. the front shocks are a year old (shipping problem on the rears when i bought all four, never ended up getting them)

Does this sound like something that would be fixed by simply replacing my rear shocks? I'm pretty sure it would just stop entirely, but i thought i'd ask just in case i'm missing something deeper than that.

Thanks guys,

Alec

control arm moves foreward and rearward slightly and sounds bad. I had about 6 or 7 different noises coming from my rear end. I converted to coilovers, installed new bushings, insalled new struts and all the noises went away. Also check the big nut on top of your strut housing. The one that keeps the strut in place. If it is loose it will sound bad.

Your halfshafts could also be loose and that would make a noise.

plus it rides so much better with polyurethane bushings...and it is like $20 for the rear bushings. Not a bad price for the improvement in ride quality. Much cheaper than buying new shocks and still having a bad ride. If you still have the noise then check out axles and other stuff. Check moustache bar tightness and that the diff is tight on the moustache bar etc..
