Guest Anonymous
All, In response to a discussion on the IZCC list about what techniques to use when a frozen brake drum is encountered, I decided to write up a photo illustrated Tech Article on the subject based on many years of dealing with this problem. Hopefully some of you will find it helpful to check it out for future reference. You can find the link to the article entitled "Removing Problem Brake Drums" at http://www.jps.net/zparts/zptech.html If you see any errors in the article or care to add something I have missed, please feel free to send it to Eric at zparts@jps.net Eric Neyerlin - owner of Z PARTS http://www.jps.net/zparts/ ------------------ Z PARTS - Used & New Online Parts Inventory at http://www.jps.net/zparts/selectzp.html
DavyZ
Thanks for the info and all the pictures--sure helps with this kind of thing! David
Owen
A little too late for me...in switching to rear discs I couldn't get the dang things off! No heat, no hammering, nothing. So in the end, I grabs my trusty grinder with 4.5" disc and slice thru the sucker from lip to center. Then took a crowbar into the newly cut slot and pried it off. Warning: don't try this if you intend to keep using your drums Owen
Guest Anonymous
Hmmm, cross cut ventilated drums... Lone
Drax240z
Hey Owen, are you putting cross-drilled brake lines on there at the same time?
Guest Anonymous
Yeah, I'd drill some lightening holes in the fuel tank too, make it nice and light.. Lone
Owen
No way! Like I said, I knew I wouldn't need the drums anymore so I sacrificed them to the gods of speed BUT, I did see a cross drilled front strut tower bar in an effort to lose weight!
