Guest 260 in a 240
I was in an accident in my 260Z with a newly rebuilt engine which I then put into the body of a 240Z that I bought with the insurance money. However, I cant figure out how to properly install the transistor ingnition system to the 240Z wiring harness. The engine runs on the 240Z point and gap distributor but can't sustain a load at high rpm and sputters. I pulled the entire transistor ignition system from the 260Z, is there a conversion kit that can be purchased for this? Or, should I junk the entire system and buy an aftermarker electrical ignition system and the triple Webers? Please help...
johnc
Or, should I junk the entire system and buy an aftermarker electrical ignition system and the triple Webers? Well, you don't need the triple Webers to get the ignition system working. No known conversion kit. I suggest you buy a Pertronix or Crane trigger and put it in the distributor replacing the points system. Or, maybe someone else knows how to get this setup working. Also, use the search function because this question might have been asked and answered before.
Guest ry&7
just go to an auto wrecker and buy a distributor from a 78 or 79 280, u might need to go a little custom with the mounting plate but its well worth it. most wreckers charge about 80 bucks for them. i also replaced my coil and balas resistor with a crane e-coil. works great for me those old contact points are just to much work. before you do this though did u play around with the timing at all ? if its dying a lil at higher rpm's try loosening the distributor screw and turning it a few degrees. if it backfires at the carbs u need to adjust if it backfires outa the tailpipe u need to step back a few degrees. lemme know if any o this helped good luck
