My Toyoya brakes pix (the bad ones)

Recommended Posts

These are shots of the calipers I received. As you can see the pistons look like ancient asteroid craters or something. These have since been traded in for new ones.

Well, if business is conducted with someone on the site, whether good or bad, others have a right to know. I just wanted to show what they looked like so others would know what I was discontent about.

Agreed/pics are worth a thousand words. I just figured this was settled publicly previously. I know I didn't doubt you before and the pics are very clear. FWIW, I did the wife's camaro's brakes the other day and even with only 2 yr old calipers it took good patience with my large fencing pliers to return the pistons to their home for accomodating new brake pads.

I'ver never quite seen rust like that on a functioning piece though....with that oxidation you'd have to bet the rest had suffered as you described.

Looks like it's just me and you icon_smile.gif

I'm not trying to say I suffered (a lot), I did buy the calipers with the understanding that they were used. But upon seeing them I didn't think they could be used any more. I guess it's my fault for not asking for pictures and stuff.

Wonder what could have caused the rusting? I bought a set of caliper rebuild kits just in case since they were only $5 each.

BTW, the links to your site don't work because the host does not allow cross linking documents. Their server picks up that the link is coming from somewhere else (in this case hybridz.org) via CGI. This prevents their host from being "used" to host pictures, for instance, for some bandwidth sucking porn site.

Tradeoff is that you can't use it for that purpose either. Most free hosting sites use a bandwidth throttle instead....

I guess I have to ask - did you bother to contact Mike before you dumped the calipers and used them for cores? Judgig from what you posted previously I'd say not. Mike sold me used calipers too, they appeared to be in fine condition and usable but I chose to upgrade. Despite the PITA to him he accepted them back as a trade, gave me full credit, and now he's customizing another setup to my spces for the rear. You'd be amazed what picking up the phone and talking to someone will do for you. (shrug) Mike buys used parts like that from a recycler and he checks them before he brings them back to his shop, why don't you ask him how many pairs he rejects to get ones he'll accept? He had to goto two yards to get mine for me because the first yard had garbage for him. An alternative would be to goto the yard yourself and pull a few sets I guess...

Anyway, I too though this was dead, buried, and that you were setup and working fine. I too was surprised to see this popping up again.

Seriously I have seen worse ones. Bear with me here, it's a novella.

I was at a junkyard and saw a toy 4x4. Figured I'd check out the calipers which it looked like it had from a distance. Anyway, got over to it, and I kid you not the rotors were so worn down that the outer face of the disc was completely gone and only the vanes were rubbing against the pads/caliper. The things were rusted to hell and it looked like someone made a panic stop to not fall off a cliff or something and damn near caught em on fire. I may be exaggerating about the fire part. But honestly those things were just trashed. I was still contemplating buying em to use as cores to give back to Checker Auto since they're never one to check the quality of cores anyway. Then the guy at the yard told me he wanted 40 bucks each for them. I laughed at him and left.

By the way for you Phoenix area guys, it's the Pick-a-part of Tempe junkyard. I'd stay away from the place, the guy that runs it is a jerk and way overprices stuff. Maybe him and Dave from Arizona Z car are in cahoots or something. One other interesting side note, He did have a 280 with 1 inch thick wooden letters/numbers that were painted silver on the rocker panels and said 280Z. I was *VERY* tempted to get them good thing I promised my wife not to buy any parts that day or they'd be mine!
